Professor Nazilla Khanlou is the faculty representative for Nursing on the Ethnic and Pluralism Studies program committee. She teaches NUR 1068H—Youth and Mental Health Promotion (2002-2003) for the Collaborative Program. Interests concern mental health promotion among youth who live within multicultural contexts; self-esteem and cultural identity development of youth in inter-cultural and cross-cultural contexts and the influence of gender and migration status; and the application of participatory action frameworks and multi-method data gathering in community-based research with immigrant and Canadian-born youth. Currently, Professor Khanlou is co-investigator of a participatory action research study entitled "Revisiting 'personal is political': Immigrant women's health promotion"(Gastaldo, Khanlou, Massaquoi, & Curling, 2002-2004, funded by CIHR).
